How to write a request letter to credit card company to waive off Membership fee, Late payment fee and interest charges

Most of the Credit card companies provide credit card facility free of cost now a days.  But few are charging membership fee annually.   But some companies wive off the membership fee of your credit card.  I have credit cards with many banks.  Some of them waive off the membership fee by making a telephonic request.  But some companies require a request letter which you can send from your registered email ID. 

Last week I was asked to sent a request letter.  I googled for a format. But couldn't find.  Then I wrote one letter.  I am sharing it with you all.  It would be helpful for all many of you who are searching for a format. It is a simple letter.  You can use another letter which requesting the bank to waive off the late payment fee too.  That is also reproducing hereunder for your reference.

Dear Sir,

Sub: Membership Fee

This is reference to my XXXXX Bank Credit Card No. xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx.  I have received my credit card statement dated 12.12.2000.  I noticed that you are charging Rs. 2500 + tax as membership fee.  

May I request you to kindly waive off the membership fee i.e. Rs. 2500 along with tax as a goodwill gesture to a valid customer of yours as most of the credit cards using by me are giving free of cost service to me.

Look forward to you confirmation of waive off of the membership fee.

Waive off mostly depend on bank to bank and your usage of credit card as well as your credit history.  Most of the time they waive off  as a goodwill gesture to a valid customer.  Some times it wont work.  In such cases, more aggressive actions like threating to cancel the credit card etc.  In that case they oblige with your request.

Another issue is that late payment fee and interest charged on your card.  Last time I didn't received the credit card statement on time and couldn't make payment on time.  They charged a late payment fee on my credit card.  Then I explained it to the credit card company over phone and they took the request over phone and waive off the late payment fee this time.  I remember last year the same thing happened with me and that time they wive off the late payment fee as well as interest charged on the amount.

Dear Sir,

This has reference to the late payment fee and interested charged on my above mentioned credit card statement dated 14.11.2009, please note I have not received the credit card statement for the period from 13.09.2009 to 13.10.2009.  Due to the non-receipt of the said statement, I couldn't make the payment on time.  Hence I request you to kindly waive off the late payment fee and interest charged on my credit card, as you know without receiving the statement I would not be in a position to make the payment.  

I already paid Rs. 25578.23 through cheque No. 888888 dated 28.11.2009 drawn on xyz Bank, Payable at London.

Kindly wave off the Late payment fee and interest and confirm the same by return mail.

Normally telephonic request would do the work.  But some banks insists for letters.  Hope the above letters are very helpful for saving some of your hard earned money.
